I spoke to Charles J. Candrilli, Julius Candrilli’s brother, on September 19, 2008 at legendary High School football coach Mike Miello’s first football game coaching Hackensack (which was played at Paramus), since leaving Hackensack in the early 1970’s. Charles Candrilli gave me information on himself and his brother, I had wrestled with Julius Candrilli’s son, Glen Candrilli, at Knowing Glen the way I did, having practiced with him quite regularly, made this information touch me. Glen’s father, Julius Candrilli, was on a landing craft ship near Hiroshima when the bomb was dropped. Shortly after, at the age of 38, he passed away from Leukemia. There was no medal for this, just the effects of the war. Written by: |
